Project: Pink Project

Client: Graft, Brad Pitt and Make It Right Foundation

Location: Multiple sites in the Lower Ninth Ward, New Orleans, LA. USA

EVENT BACKGROUND: In the winter of 2007 Brad Pitt, along with Graft and his charitable foundation Make It Right, set out to rebuild the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans, an area devastated by Hurricane Katrina. The Pink House Project, as it became known, was an opportunity for displaced citizens to return, promote sustainability, introduce modern and sustainable architecture and rebuild a community. The goal was to build 150 houses via an innovative donation structure where people could purchase single items like faucets or pay for an entire home.

EXECUTION: Beese functioned as the Executive Producer in collaboration with Stephen Rehage of RE Entertainment. RE: donated all of their resources to handle the Project Management to support the vision of Mr. Pitt and Make It Right. Beese produced and managed a large scale art installation with 150 life-size housing structures, symbolic of the neighborhood as it once was. Over a five-week period the structures were assembled in real time as generous donations funded each house.

RETROSPECTIVE: The project has earned international acclaim and numerous awards. Among them, the DAD Yellow Pencil Award further read Architecture In Times Of Need.
